Pinnacle of God’s Creation

Pinnacle of God’s Creation

God has a story to tell.  A story that is covered in the pages of the Bible from beginning to end that truly shows God’s intervention for His beloved creation.   And though the story line builds upon itself from each chapter to each chapter, we will only look at the main story line and the characters involved in it.  And from their stories we will find our present day applications.

So the story starts with God creating – the foundation.

Here’s an OBJECT LESSON to prove a point:   You’re  given a small baggie of legos.

1.  If you shake your bag as many times and as hard as you can, what would your action(s) produce?

2.  Now, open your bag and start creating.  What did you get this time?

The point of this object lesson is that the only way something was created was through the use of your hands and your mind.  The object you created came to be because you personally took the pieces and put them together to form what you had in mind.

You know, this is how we got here on this earth.  You proved that creation doesn’t happen simply by chance.

Creation happens because someone takes the time to intricately put together the pieces to make what he/she wanted to make.  And that creation becomes very dear to the Creator.

So only God could take what existed, as we know it, and piece it together to make the universe and what exists within it.

Yet, despite how magnificent and intricate the universe we live in truly is, the pinnacle of God’s creation is not the moon, the sun, the stars, the earth, the vegetation, nor the fish, the birds, and the animals.

No, the pinnacle of God’s creation is YOU!!!!

Of all the pieces to creation, God said that all of it was good.  Yet what did God say in The Story upon His creation of humanity?  (Genesis 1: 31 – “God saw all that he had made, and it was VERY good.”)

Legendary Coach Vince Lombardi of the Green Bay Packers started off each season by holding up a game ball and saying, “Gentlemen, this is a football.”  Legendary Basketball Coach, John Wooden of the UCLA Bruins would begin each season by teaching his team how to correctly put on their socks and tie their shoes.  All of this, what seems to be meaningless conversation and demonstration, were the start to a solid foundation upon which their teams had great success – Lombardi (7 Championships & Super Bowl Trophy); Wooden (10 NCAA Championships in 12 years)

And so if we look at the Bible in its story form, we will see that God established a foundation for the entire Book because of what happened in the Beginning.  The foundation is that God (in three persons – Father, Son, Holy Spirit) is the creator and the initiator.  And people are the crown, the pinnacle, of His creative activity.

Why was humanity the most prized portion of His creation?  Why did He save the best for last?

It is solely because in His creative mind, just like you did with the legos, He created humanity in His image so that He could have relationship with them.

In fact, if you look closely at the Creation Story you will see that God created all the magnificent stuff so that He could place His prize creation on this earth last to survive and to thrive.  Humanity was not created for the earth or by the earth.  Rather earth was created for humanity, and God wanted to be right in the center of having relationship with them.

When God made the universe, He did it with one reason in mind – YOU AND ME – that you and I would have everything we need, but most importantly, we would have Him – a relationship with Him.

But The Story truly shows why the story continued beyond what seemed to be a fairy tale ending.  And it’s all because humanity rejected their Creator.  It’s like the object you created out of legos saying to you, “I don’t want to be what you created me to be.  I want to be a horse.”

Genesis 3: 6 states, “When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it.  She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it.”

Yet, God still showed He cared by clothing their nakedness.

In fact this was the start to the severed relationship between God and humanity.  The relationship became so bad that humanity became very ruthless and evil (sought no time with God).  But still, God couldn’t exterminate his beloved pinnacle of creation when He had every right to do so.

Genesis 7: 6-7 states, “Noah was 600 years old when the floodwaters came on the earth.  And Noah and his sons and his wife and his sons’ wives entered the ark to escape the waters of the flood.”

And God even went so far to make a covenant with humanity. He tells them to be fruitful and multiply the earth again – that all food (animal and vegetable) is available to them now – and that the earth would never be destroyed again by water.

Genesis 9: 11 states, “I establish my covenant with you:  Never again will all life be cut off by the waters of a flood, never again will there be a flood to destroy the earth.”

Yet once again, after time given to replenish the earth, humanity chose that relationship with God was not important, that they could be just as great or higher than God – that they could be in control.

Genesis 11: 4 states, “Then they said, Come, let us build ourselves a city with a tower that reaches to the heavens so that we may make a name for ourselves and not be scattered over the face of the whole earth.”

But once again, God cares enough to step in to save his pinnacle of creation from destroying themselves.

Genesis 11: 8-9 states, “So the Lord scattered them from there all over the earth, and they stopped building the city.  That is why it is called Babel – because there the Lord confused the language of the whole world.  From there the Lord scattered them over the face of whole earth.”

So, the question to be asked is:  Why would God keep pursuing humanity even after we have rebelled and rejected Him?  Why would God keep pursuing you and me after all the pain we have put Him through?

Well the answer to this question is the foundation to The Story.  And The Story will unfold to show us simply how much God loves His pinnacle of creation.  It will show us how much He loves us and will do whatever it takes to have relationship with us again.

So today God wants you to know that you are the Pinnacle of His Creation.  And because He prizes you above all else He is patient with you and desires nothing more than to see you thrive.  But He hopes that in your success you won’t lock Him out of your life due to your pride – that you won’t reject His offer of relationship.  He hopes that you will enter into His rest and seek to find what God had destined from the Beginning of The Story.
